Mina2 is a cutter-rigged Oyster 485 owned by Tim Barker of London, England. Built in 1997 by Windboats Marine in Norwich on the east coast of England, she was bought by Tim in March 2003. Since then she has sailed 50,000 miles visiting 50 countries on six continents, cruising in to the Arctic Circle to the Lofoten Islands at the top of Norway, round the Baltic Sea, the Mediterranean as far as Turkey, down the west coast of Africa, across the Atlantic and down the east coast of South America.
In the Austral summer of 2011/12 Mina2 was the first British yacht crewed by amateurs to sail to Antarctica in six years. Whilst there, they presented on behalf of the Royal Cruising Club a tribute to Lawrence Oates on the centenary of his heroic death, to the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust in Port Lockroy.
Mina2 is one of the very few amateur yachts ever to have sailed both into the Arctic Circle and down to Antarctica.
After their exertions in the Deep South, Mina2 and her doughty crew sailed back up the Atlantic, explored the Guianas on their way to the Caribbean, and have now returned to the Mediterranean where they are drifting down the west coast of Italy. One of Mina2’s skippers is enjoying the warmth. The other skipper is desperately wondering where the ice and excitement went to.

“Mina” is Argentine slang for an attractive and curvaceous temptress.
